Juab Tournament...

Cael was excited for his first tournament and we didn't know quite what to expect. They had the younger kids scheduled to start at noon so we headed over a little early to get a seat. When we walked in I could tell it was going to be a long day. There were kids everywhere and we later found out that 780 kids had actually registered to wrestle. We found a seat and after asking around we found out they were Hours behind schedule! 6 hours to be exact. The boys were patient and played a lot of DS. We had lunch and watched the other matches. They worked from the oldest to youngest and then finally announced that the Pre-K was going to start. They then started with the lightest to biggest which meant Cael officially was one of the last kids to wrestle in the tournament since he was in the heaviest weight bracket. He was first matched up against a kid named Issac from Pioneers of Wrestling team. It was a good match and Cael did his best against him. I could tell that the kid had a lot more experience because he was doing some good moves trying to pin Cael. Cael didn't stay on his back for long and did great at defending himself. The next match was against Cutler Christensen from Champions wrestling. Now Champions is a big name wrestling group out of Springville that have some amazing kids. This kid towered over Cael which makes me think that he was actually older. He also tried several moves to get Cael pin, but Cael fought his little heart out and kept getting away from him. His last match was actually against my cousin's little boy Conner. This match was pretty even and in the end they had tied in points. Cael was so proud he got another metal and we were so proud of how well he did especially since the only thing we did to help was yell "stand up Cael" which is actually not always the best thing to do. I can tell how much these tournaments help them learn, because most of the time in practice he just goofs around and doesn't pay attention. During this tournament he really showed how much he is learning and how aggressive he can be. We had fun supporting him and I think Casey is officially hooked on this sport. Last year he kind of fought me to put him in, but now he has realize how fun it can be and is really looking forward to taking him to more tournaments.

Inner Strength

Poor Gavyn got matched up with this kid the first round. He was an aggressive little thing and ended up pinning Gav three times while his dad yelled "squeeze Him!!" Gav came off crying, but was strong enough to go out and wrestle again. He even came off smiling after wrestling his next kid. I think this has been so good for both of the boys to help them gain determination and good sportsmanship.
